The Kisses Redux 2022

by Erik Ian Walker

/
1.
Translated from the Latin: Join with your kisses murmurs low, Smile soft endearments in my ear, And as you bite me, say the words I love to hear. So let us, like a pair of doves In the fair days of early spring Our quivering lips in one long kiss Together bring. Rest on my cheeks your swimming gaze And all distraught with passion cry: "O take me, take me, or I shall In rapture die." Then my warm arms shall hold you close, And I your dear weight sustain, And with fond kisses give you back Your life again. Until I, too, in turn grow weak And must from all endeavor cease, Only desiring in your arms To rest at peace. Then you will play the healer's part With arms that cling and lips that burn, And hold me close in warm embrace Till life return. So let us pass the happy hours, While we are young and life is sweet. Sickness and age and death draw nigh With hurrying feet. Joannes Secundus (Jan Everaerts) 1511-1536

about

The Kisses Redux (2022) features a complete reworking of the title track, The Kisses. The first movement, in particular, is now recorded with real cellos, string bass and piano, retaining Cameron Ember's gorgeous vocals (everything else is new!). The first movement is also now complete, as earlier versions of the piece had edited out the final 2 minutes of it.
The 2nd movement has been re-mixed (no new instruments recorded), the 3rd movement, the dark passage part of the piece, makes its first appearance ever, as it was not included in the original release in 1999.
The 4th movement has also been re-mixed, with all parts intact from the original, but without the scary 90's reverbs.

ALL other tracks on the album have not been altered in any way. They are just fine as is, and needed no reworking!

The collaborations with Cameron Ember and Phyllis Kamrin were very creative and the creation of the pieces was influenced in no small part by their talents and ideas. The entire viola-violin duet in the 2nd movement of The Kisses was altered, phrase by phrase, by Phyllis' input.
Without them, this album would never have come to be.

Produced by Erik Ian Walker (with Paul Carlson on original Kisses 2nd Movement)

Mastered by Michael Telle, except for The Kisses (Basia), mastered by A. Hammer Mastering (Gary Hobish).
