These are the first recordings on the new Steinway O at my studio, WackoWorld Music. We are testing out some new mics, mic placement, and doing various experiments with the piano itself. All pieces, except for cover tunes, are taken from sketch books I have filled up over the years. I find a short idea I wrote down, invent a bit of an arrangement, and then record. Key to this process is to not 'freeze' the arrangement. Each take can be wildly different, with just some threads of the idea, general development, and a contrast or two as starting points. I work best this way, as, often, my best 'songs' are the ones I didn't know I was about to play. With this new piano, and better microphones, I can make true recordings of these kind of inventions, and not try too hard to fix them into place.
